Antibiotics in the Food Industry

Read Best Practise Guide:

Unchecked use of antibiotics in the food industry could have devastating impacts on the health of thousands of people as antibiotic resistance looms.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is no longer a threat to humans, it has become reality, and according to Dame Sally Davies, formerly England’s chief medical officer, AMR has the potential to cause 80,000 deaths over the next 20 years, causing “an apocalyptic scenario”.

Antibiotics present in the supply chains of the food industry risk the ongoing health of the nation, and the regulation of such practises is imperative.

Having greater visibility and therefore control over the supply chain will help to reduce the overuse of antibiotics and reduce the risk it poses to general health.
