If you can hear the distant sounds of sleigh bells jingling, or see snowflakes falling from the sky, it can only mean one thing. Christmas is upon us once again! Although it’s the season to be jolly, perhaps it’s also the season to consider working with sustainable suppliers. Many of our Christmas traditions aren’t particularly sustainable. For example, it’s estimated that over 1 billion Christmas cards are thrown away each year.

Whilst we should all be doing our part for the environment at home to help reduce our own personal environmental footprint, the reality is that the activities of larger companies have a more significant impact on the environment, due their wide-reaching global supply chains. At Christmas, 30% more waste is generated on average, according to the environment agency.

Therefore, to generate a significant level of change, companies need to achieve their sustainability targets not just in the UK, but on an international scale. Environmental impact can be lessened by working with more sustainable suppliers. Visibility must be increased between the supplier and the buying company to achieve this end during the process of on-boarding supplier data.

Work with sustainable suppliers using ARCUS® Supplier Management Software

ARCUS® Supplier Management Software across source-to-contract helps companies achieve their sustainability targets by embedding environmental drivers into each stage of sourcing, so they can identify sustainable suppliers.

For example, a supplier can be required to give key information on their environmental targets, allowing the buying organisation to assess whether this supplier aligns with their own goals. Visibility is increased between the two organisations, so a buyer can consider environmental factors during selection.

Once supplier sustainability information is onboarded, it can be visualised through supplier dashboards, allowing companies to get an overview of their supply base sustainability at-a-glance.

ARCUS® also has a collection of sustainability APIs available, so supplier sustainability information can be collected straight from the official source. For example, our EcoVadis integration allows users to pull their suppliers sustainability score into ARCUS® directly, establishing a live, connection so the score is consistently up to date.
