Scotch Whisky Day 2020: Product Information Management software to lift your spirits

Scotch Whisky Day is celebrated every 27th July by countless people around the world, as nothing says relaxation after a long week at work more than a nice single malt. There might be one small stumbling block this year, though – Scotch Whisky Day 2020 happens to land on a Monday.

Still, while drinking alcohol at the start of the week is not likely to be a good habit to get into, you could be excused for getting into the spirt tonight as a one-off. Scotch Whisky Day was created to be a celebration of the iconic beverage in all its glory, after all.

Scotch whisky is Scotland’s biggest export, and it continues to grow in popularity. According to the Scotch Whisky Association, exports of the spirit grew by 4.4% to £4.9bn last year, which accounted for 1.3bn bottles being exported to 180 global markets.

While whisky is typically distilled only using a handful of ingredients, this does not mean it is exempt from the potential risk of allergens in the supply chain. It can be derived from various grains such as barley, corn, rye or wheat, and some may also contain the likes of caramel and other spices to enhance the flavour.

Failure to identify and openly communicate these allergen risks could leave whisky distilleries in a potentially sticky situation, but thankfully, there is a solution.

ARCUS® Product Information Management (PIM) is a cloud-based solution that digitises, automates and streamlines the process of collecting product information from suppliers, and it has been tailored specifically for use in the food and beverage industry.

Using ARCUS® PIM, configurable, tailored product questionnaires are sent to suppliers, who then proceed to directly enter vital product information such as allergens, ingredients, nutritional data and pricing information. Cheers to that!

Additionally, the cloud-based nature of the software provides all key stakeholders with a central product database, increasing confidence across procurement, quality, technical and supply chain departments in the real-time accuracy of product specifications.

ARCUS® PIM is already providing supply base confidence for numerous food and beverage companies, including Ei Group, Punch Pubs and Fridays.

Alyson Scott, Procurement, Supply Chain and Technical Director at Fridays, says:

“The introduction of ARCUS® PIM has allowed us to collect and manage product and allergen information more efficiently.”

If you would like to find out more about ARCUS® PIM, please feel free to get in touch, or alternatively, you can download the Fridays PIM case study.
